Rebranding of Pieszak jeans

During the spring, Pieszak contacted me in search of a new look and a rebranding of their fantastic cool and fashionable jeans.  Previously they have been shooting their pictures in a studio, but I wanted to bring more stories to the pictures and found a cool location by the harbour in Copenhagen.  When you are looking for a location for a fashion shoot, it is important that the location works well with the clothes and is bringing the right feeling to the images.  Since Pieszak’s jeans are super cool and raw with lots of rivets and a perfect fit, I was looking for a cool and perhaps a little bit trashy location  with a bit of a deserted and remote look. So I found a really cool place that could easily be an old factory area in Spain, and not just a harbour in Copenhagen.

POLFOTO (the Danish answer to Corbis and Getty)

After more than 10 years as a professional photographer, and with more than 100,000 exposed pictures, my ever growing digital archive is exploding with more and more beautiful pictures of models, people, nature, flowers, travels and still lifes. I have felt guilty for keeping them to myself, as I think of how I have stored away all these pictures in the digital files in my external hard drives, and some of them, had never before even left my computer. Therefore I thought that a good solution would be to be represented by POLFOTO (and they agreed!). Now they offer my archive pictures for sale, so perhaps many other people will one day enjoy them too.

Nature photography in northern Sweden

During Easter I took a photo trip to Vålådalens Nature Reserve in the rugged outback of Sweden. I wanted to capture some of the amazing winter landscapes in the mountains and to get a good four days break from civilization with no internet, no cell phone connection, and be able to focus on my pictures and enjoy an exhilarating feeling of pure freedom and the great outdoors.

Vålådalens Nature Reserve is located in Jämtland, Sweden and near Åre which can be used as a launch point as well as a great place to get in some downhill skiing on a world cup circuit resort. What the locals know, but the tourists often undervalue, is the incredible Vålådalens Nature Reserve. There, you will find hiking trails through the mysterious old Nordic forests, in a breathtakingly beautiful mountain region. The trails lead up to elevations of 1700 meters well above the tree line and much of the reserve is wide open terrain with no trees and endless snow and frozen mountain lakes. The mountains are well covered with marked trails, which connect the Swedish Tourist information’s huts for overnight stay. The only way to access the area is by cross-country skiing, or hiking, so some level of fitness and skiing ability is required.

To do nature photography in the winter mountains is good fun but it does require a bit of hard work and stamina, not to mention physical fitness, if only just to carry the equipment along with your provisions in order to reach the locations. You need to carry everything, including food and extra clothes on your back in a pack, which makes the skiing that much more fun! To minimize the weight, I brought with me a limited amount of photography equipment but definitely included my Canon Mark 3 1 ds with a 24-70mm.

Despite the first day’s 15 mps wind and snow in our face that slowed our ascent to a hard crawl, the hard work in getting to the top fully paid off.

Days 2-4, mother nature blessed us with low to no wind and pure blue skies and sunshine.  If you haven’t experienced this part of the worlds amazing outdoor beauty and raw natural wilderness at least once in your life, you should.  Though, next time, I think I will skip the backpack and ride up with a dog sled as I have also done in the past – I missed a few pieces of equipment, not to mention, my usual champagne and caviar to celebrate reaching the top.  I did manage a nice hip flask of whisky though… :)

Poster for the entrepreneurship fair, I-DNA 2010

In the autumn I was asked to create a poster for a new entrepreneurship fair in Aarhus, DK. The poster should be eye catching and show the entrepreneurship DNA which we are calling I-DNA because in Danish, the word for entrepreneur begins with an “I” for Iværksætter.

Sometimes it takes more than one person to create the perfect image, so I asked some of my good friends and fellow specialists in the world of cool Danish designers if they would like to get in on the fun.  Mikkel from BechBox and Gudjon from Oddfischlein joined me in the brainstorming session and creation of the image and the logo. We wanted to show the diversity of entrepreneurship – that it is for both male and female creative and business people, but what is in common for all entrepreneurs is the DNA profile. DNA are the building blocks in all companies and for all entrepreneurs who just can’t help starting a company.

Mikkel was the Photoshop graphics master and transformed the two models into one person, and Gudjon with his team at Oddfishlein created the new logo.

New base in Copenhagen

From 2010 I will also be based in Copenhagen.

I am setting up a base in Copenhagen so I much easier can help my clients in Copenhagen, and also offer all my clients much more flexibility with two bases. It will make it easier for me to operate all around Denmark and international, and give my clients an even better service.

I hope to see you in the new year both in Aarhus and Copenhagen.
